Brubecks Play Brubeck celebrated Dave Brubeck’s centennial in 2020. Dave Brubeck was born in 1920 and went on to have a long and illustrious career as a composer, pianist and jazz ambassador. His famous Dave Brubeck Quartet recorded “Take Five” and “Blue Rondo a la Turk” on Time Out in 1959 and these tracks remain hugely popular the world over. His sons Darius, Chris and Dan, have toured annually as Brubecks Play Brubeck every year since the group was formed (with Dave O’Higgins on sax) for a UK concert tour in 2010.

Pianist, composer and professor of Jazz Studies, Darius Brubeck was the director of the Centre for Jazz & popular music at the university of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa until 2005 when he moved to London and established the highly successful Darius Brubeck Quartet. Later, Brubeck started his own bands, and toured the world with his famous father and brothers as a member of Two Generations of Brubeck and The New Brubeck Quartet. He moved to South Africa in 1983, to initiate the first jazz studies degree offered by an African university, gaining international recognition for his work in education and for his recordings and concerts with South African musicians.

Chris Brubeck is equally at home playing jazz, rock, classical, funk and folk music, displaying his multiple talents on three instruments, Chris also is an award-winning composer. In addition to his instrumental work with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet, Chris tours, records and sings with his acoustic funk-blues group “Triple Play”.

Dan Brubeck was featured on nearly a dozen albums with his father, and toured widely with the Dave Brubeck Quartet. He’s toured internationally and recorded three widely played albums with his electric jazz group, „The Dolphins”, and co-led the Brubeck LaVerne Trio with his brother Chris and pianist Andy LaVerne.

Dave O’Higgins has toured all over the world and recorded 17 albums as a leader. His wide experience includes playing with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Smith, Eric Alexander, Kyle Eastwood, Jamie Cullum and many others. He fronts his regular working group, The Dave O’Higgins Quartet and, in addition to Brubecks Play Brubeck, he is a member of The Darius Brubeck Quartet.
